Freedom Community Clinic approaches care through the whole person, connecting mind, body and spirit with culture and community. The organization makes room for gathering and celebration as part of that work.
We wanted the portraits to carry some of that warmth. The setting and color needed to feel connected to FCC, with room for each person's expression and presence.
Finding the picture in an hour
We arrived without having seen the venue. There was about an hour to assess the space, set the lighting and photograph everyone. The first decisions had to happen quickly: where to work, how to shape the light and how to keep the session moving.
The goal was to make that short time feel easy for the people in front of the camera and leave them with professional portraits that felt personal.
A shared identity, individual faces
The colorful setting gives the collection a common thread. Within it, a broad smile or a quieter expression changes the feeling of each photograph.
That is what we look for in environmental portraiture: a picture of someone that also says something about where they are. Here, the portraits feel like part of Freedom Community Clinic while giving each person room to be themselves.
